My LS2011 App Strategy

I have to say, I’m lovin’ the LS2011 app. I actually kinda enjoy planning out a conference experience on a spreadsheet or marking notes in a book, and I never expected to be able to really compare my options on my iPhone screen, but after trying it out, I’m hooked.

TK11 had a similar one and I also had a lot of time to play with the app on my 18-hr trip here, so I developed a strategy. Here’s how I’m using it:

1) Find the sessions that I must go to… Either I’m presenting or have definitely decided to attend. Add it to the calendar AND mark it as a favorite. (I’m using this quite sparingly, as I tend to make game-time decisions.)

2) Go to Programs > All Sessions at a Glance. It took me a while to find this, but I’m glad I did. I went through the list, marking each session I’m interested in as a Favorite. I’m not worrying about time slots at this point. I’m doing the same with the Expo section for particular booths I want to make sure to visit.

3) Go to the conference. Whenever I don’t have something on my schedule, I’ll go to Now. If there’s nothing starred, it’s Expo time or break time. And if I’ve accidentally gone to Now instead of looking at my schedule, my Must-dos are also right there, starred as reminders.

Also, I’ve put my info in Share Contacts so that I’m ready if someone wants to “bump”. I probably won’t just offer that, because it sounds funny, but… I’m ready.

Got feedback on the app? Be sure to tell Brent Schlenker!

What I’m Looking Forward to at Learning Solutions

Not necessarily in this order:

  • Nancy Duarte’s keynote and ID Zone session
  • Finding out the latest at the expo
  • Sharing the tech, tool, and design love at my HTML5 and Morning Buzz sessions
  • Several other concurrent sessions — although I’m still not positive which ones I’m going to
  • Hanging out with people I know mostly from the Internet: Jane Bozarth, Brent Schlenker, Bill Brandon, Brandon Carson, Kevin Thorn, Brian Dusablon, Sumeet Moghe, Sahana Chattopadhyay, Aaron Silvers, Michelle Lentz, Alicia Sanchez, Koreen Olbrish, Stevie Rocco, Kris Rockwell, Tricia Rimmer, Kay Wood, Tracy Parish, Terrence Wing, Julie Dirksen, and my co-worker, Tanya Coomes (we work 2,000 miles and three time zones away, so we rarely get to hang out in person). And whoever else I happen to meet.

I’ll attend all general sessions and as many others as I can, and I’ll tweet (and maybe even blog) often to help bring the conference to you. #LS2011 is the official hashtag, and I’ll use the session number as an additional hashtag. See you online, or if you’re here in Orlando, say Hi!

Free Stuff Tuesday (2/1/11 Edition)

Okay, so today’s post isn’t about elearning design per se… I’m just sharing it because sometimes it’s nice to have a little inspiration on your desktop. Particularly well-designed inspiration.

Veer.com has images, fonts, just about everything a graphic designer needs… and they have great wallpaper, too. They’re free but require a login. Check out the February releases. (I’m thinking the Escape from Comic Sans one will have a home on my desktop for a while.)

And while you’re there, check out their other free stuff, some of which you might be able to use in your courses after all.
